What do I need to do after my Candela Gentle Max Pro Plus® Laser Hair Removal session?

After undergoing a laser hair removal session with Candela Gentlemax Pro, it is important to take certain precautions to ensure the best possible results. Failure to follow post-treatment care guidelines can result in skin irritation, discoloration, and other complications.

Do’s After Laser Hair Removal

1 – Keep the Treated Area Clean

It is important to keep the treated area clean to prevent infection. Use a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water to wash the treated area.

2 – Use Cold Compresses

Applying a cold compress to the treated area can help reduce swelling and discomfort. Use a clean cloth or towel soaked in cold water and apply it to the treated area for a few minutes at a time.

3 – Wear Loose Clothing

After laser hair removal with Candela Gentlemax Pro, it is recommended to wear loose clothing to prevent irritation or discomfort. Tight clothing can rub against the treated area, causing irritation and possibly even infection.

4 – Apply Moisturiser

Using a moisturizer on the treated area can help soothe the skin and reduce redness. Be sure to choose a fragrance-free, hypoallergenic moisturiser to avoid any potential irritation.

5 – Protect Your Skin from the Sun

After laser hair removal, it is important to avoid direct sunlight for a few days. Use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and wear protective clothing to prevent sunburn and further skin damage.

Don’ts After Laser Hair Removal

1 – Avoid Hot Baths or Showers

Avoid taking hot baths or showers for a few days after laser hair removal. Hot water can cause irritation and increase the risk of infection. Instead, use lukewarm water to wash the treated area.

2 – Do Not Apply Makeup or Perfume

Avoid applying makeup or perfume to the treated area for at least 24 hours after laser hair removal. These products can cause irritation and even infection.

3 – Do Not Scratch or Pick at the Treated Area

Scratching or picking at the treated area can cause irritation, infection, and even scarring. Avoid touching the treated area as much as possible.

4 – Do Not Exercise or Participate in High-Impact Activities

Avoid exercise or other high-impact activities for a few days after laser hair removal. Sweating can irritate the treated area and increase the risk of infection.

Do Not Touch the Treated Area

Avoid touching the treated area as much as possible. Touching the area can cause irritation and increase the risk of infection.

Does Laser Hair Removal hurt?

One of the benefits of Laser Hair Removal is that the treatment is virtually painless, especially compared to waxing. Each pulse lasts less than a second, producing a slight tingling feeling. In particularly sensitive areas, such as the upper lip, it may feel like a rubber band snap on the skin. We use an advanced cooling machine in conjunction with our laser device to reduce the heat sensation on the skin and minimize any discomfort.

How long should I go in between Laser Hair Removal appointments?

Depending on your hair and skin type and the area being treated, you will usually require treatments at 4-6 week intervals. Each part of the body has a different hair growth cycle, so the hair loss will vary depending on what phase your follicles are in at the time of treatment.

What Laser Hair Removal machines do you use?

At Progen Aesthetics, we use the world's leading Laser Hair Removal technology Medical-grade, Candela Gentle Max Pro Plus® laser. This state of the art technology is TGA approved and is equipped with two separate laser types – the Nd:YAG and Alexandrite lasers – which emit wavelengths of 1064nm and 755nm, respectively. This broad range of high-precision wavelengths makes the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus an ideal platform for customized laser hair removal treatments.

Why does Gentle Max Pro Plus® laser have two different wavelengths of light?

People with lighter skin types require a shorter wavelength of light because melanin pigment absorbs shorter wavelengths more strongly. Lighter skin types are treated with the 755 nm alexandrite laser. Darker skin types require longer wavelengths of light and are treated with the infrared, invisible, 1,064 nm wavelength

Why can't 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser be used for all patients?

Longer wavelengths of light (energy really, as technically it’s not light if we can’t see it) are absorbed so poorly, that very high energies would be required to treat people with very light skin types. This can exceed the available energy a laser can deliver, and result in skin damage because too much heat would have to be delivered to the skin. It works to use a long wavelength, 1064 nm laser to treat light skin, but not nearly as well as a shorter wavelength

Why can't 755nm alexandrite laser be used for all patients?

Because 755 nm light is more strongly absorbed by melanin pigment than 1,064 nm laser energy, it can affect lightly colored hair with lower doses of light. This means that the laser can ‘see’ light colored hair quite well. The problem for darker skin types is that the laser will also ‘see’ more darkly pigmented skin. We are targeting the hair and not at the skin and using a short wavelength in more darkly pigmented skin can injure the skin.
